Our Client, the Fair Trading Commission (FTC) in Barbados, was established on January 2nd, 2001 through the Fair Trading Commission Act. Its broad mandate includes the regulation of public utilities and matters of fair competition and consumers’ rights.

The FTC is recruiting for its most senior leadership role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

The Role

•Is accountable to the Commission for the administration and enforcement of the Fair Trading Commission Act and the laws relating to utility regulation, fair competition, and consumer protection.

•Leads the senior management team providing oversight and ultimate responsibility for the human, financial, and physical resources and the programmatic operations of the Commission.

•Exercises general management supervision of the work of the Commission, giving direction and guidance to ensure that the Commission provides sound professional advice and support to the public.

•Acts as the principal public relations agent for the Commission, fostering sound relationships with key stakeholders including the Government, private sector, and the wider public.

The Candidate

•Postgraduate degree in Business Administration, Management, Law, Economics, or other related discipline.

•At least ten (10) years’ experience in a strategic leadership role, with at least five (5) years of working knowledge of regulatory issues.

•Demonstrated ability to successfully lead an organization, together with general management acumen and sound management skills.

•Effective interpersonal skills to interact with the Commission’s stakeholders.

•A sound understanding of the Barbadian business environment and its legal framework.

•A thorough knowledge of the regional and international regulatory environment is highly desirable.

The appointment will be on contract for an initial three (3) year period.
