With over 20 years of experience, Dr. Marsha Atherley-Ikechi is a distinguished expert in environmental engineering and utility regulation, She previously served as the CEO of the Fair Trading Commission in Barbados, the only tripartite regulator in the Caribbean, overseeing consumer protection and fair competition matters, in addition to utility regulation. Her extensive expertise covers sustainable development for small island developing states, focusing on climate change resilience, renewable energy policy and implementation, the water-energy nexus and telecommunications liberalization.
Dr. Atherley-Ikechi has played a key role in advancing Barbados’ renewable energy sector, including leading the development and review of feed-in and storage tariffs. She holds a Ph.D. and M.Sc. in Chemical/Environmental Engineering and Renewable Energy Management from the University of the West Indies as well as a M.Sc. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne. As a consultant and author she actively contributes to the fields of energy efficiency, climate change mitigation, and regulatory practices in the Caribbean. She relishes this new role as it allows her to leverage her technical knowledge and deep understanding of the region to catalyze meaningful and sustainable change for our Caribbean community.
