Many times, in development, we speak in the language of institutions: financing, replenishment, commitments and signals. But we cannot lose sight of what those words represent.
They represent families rebuilding after disaster, livelihoods interrupted, communities trying to recover and countries working to protect development gains that took decades to achieve.
Our discussions on loss and damage must remain grounded in those realities. The commitments we make matter, but delivering on them matters even more.
Because ultimately, these are real lives, real communities and real futures counting on the decisions we make.
Many thanks to my brother, Ibrahima Cheikh DIONG, Executive Director of the Fund for responding to Loss and Damage (FRLD), and the Government of Republic of the Philippines, for hosting this timely discussion on scaling up finance for loss and damage on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.
